Little Otter Swim School’s New Huntersville Facility Has Been Selected as Aquatics International’s 2015 Dream Design

Little Otter Swim School was recently chosen by Aquatics International as its 2015 Dream Design winner for designing and building its extraordinary Huntersville, NC facility.

Little Otter’s new facility that was completed in 2014, boasts features that were thoughtfully included in the design to help instructors and administrators to better create an exceptional learning experience for the parents and children that the school serves.

“Being selected as the 2015 Dream Design for Swim Schools highlights our goals in designing and building this facility anew. Receiving this recognition from the aquatics industry’s thought leader – Aquatics International – is incredibly rewarding for us and validates the way that we believe swim lessons should be taught,” says John Kirk, Little Otter co-owner.

The 16,300 square foot swim school includes a massive pool that is sectioned off into individual pools that are geared to different types of education and skill levels.

Decks between individual pools give instructors visibility to any student in any of the instruction areas. Moveable benches at two depths help children to comfortably experience buoyancy under their instructors’ supervision.

Little Otter’s Huntersville facility also boasts several green features such as garage doors that enable the school to take advantage of moderate Charlotte temperatures to save on energy costs.

Most of all, Little Otter owners, John and Lory Kirk designed the Huntersville facility to raise the fun factor of swimming lessons and elevate the level of learning that takes place.

In addition to the Huntersville swim school, the Kirks also own and manage another Charlotte-area location in Matthews, NC that is well-established with ten years of providing swim lessons to children.

“When we opened the Matthews location, we had upfitted an existing pool so we didn’t have the freedom to make the design choices that we were able to make in building our Huntersville location from scratch,” notes Kirk. After ten years in this business, we had many ideas about ways to improve facility design so that everything would be better for students, parents and instructors.”
