What began as just a child’s love for swimming became a passion that led a man facing significant obstacles to become an athlete at a level beyond his wildest dreams. Rudy became a four-time Paraolympian and Triathalon finisher because, like another Rudy of Notre Dame football fame, he never gave up.
Yes, swimming is a valuable life skill: one that every person should acquire at a young age. But swimming can also be much more. It can be an activity that levels the playing field for those with challenges and allows them to compete – and excel. It helps participants build self-esteem and develop self-worth – when perhaps they’ve not been able to do this in their other activities.
