Boo! Halloween Candy Isn’t Proper Fuel

Halloween is a fun time for children to express themselves by dressing up as their favorite character and going trick-or-treating to load up on candy. While Halloween candy hunting is a fun experience for kids, it’s especially important to not allow your kids to fuel up on candy prior to their swimming lessons.

Candy may provide a quick burst of energy, but there are many more unpleasant consequences that follow. Here are some things to consider when it comes to proper nutrition prior to swimming lessons for your child.

Alternatives for Halloween Candy

Instead of dealing with the effects of sugar, try healthy snacks instead. Some healthy snacks for kids before their swim lessons include fruits and vegetables, crackers with peanut butter, various nuts, and cheese sticks. These foods contain ingredients to keep your child active without the resulting crash afterward.

After the swim lessons are over, a variety of different protein options will help your child recover well from their lessons and experience the most gains physically. Hydration is key, which you can do with water or even some chocolate milk!

Make the Most of Swim Lessons for Your Children

If you’re going to send your child to swim lessons, you might as well help them make the most of it. Proper nutrition before and after the lessons can give them the fuel they need to be successful, healthy, and safe during their swimming lessons. And when you make healthy eating a habit, it won’t be hard to convince your kids they don’t need Halloween candy all the time!

Little Otter Swim School offers a unique experience for swim lessons for your children. Our year-round group instruction gives children the opportunity to learn about water safety and to build their swimming skills properly.
