You’ve made it to swimming lessons with your kids, their bathing suits goggles and a towel. First hurdle accomplished!
If you are even close to being on time, give yourself one star. If your child actually willingly got into the pool without tears, you get two stars!
Now that your child is in the pool and you have a moment of peace, what do you do? You actually have 30 minutes that you can do whatever you want (within reason!)
What are your choices?
- Open up your laptop and send read some neglected emails or send some that you’ve put off.
- Scroll through Facebook and maybe even play a goofy game.
- Look for your friends latest Instagram or Snapchat pictures.
- Plan your upcoming week.
- Answer voicemail.
- Pull out your needlepoint or knitting.
- Write in your journal or read a chapter in your latest book.
- Do lunges around the lobby and a wall sit or two.
- Plan meals for the weekend and make a grocery list.
- Eat a little dinner at not such a rushed pace.
- File your nails.
- Kick back and chat with other parents, making new friends or renewing acquaintances from last season.
- If you’re a good napper, close your eyes for a few winks.
You have almost limitless choices.
And guess what? You don’t have to feel bad if you don’t keep your eyes glued to your child for the entire 30-minute lesson. None of the school’s staff will note it in your records. Experienced parents will not chastise you or grill you. So relax and enjoy it, whether you choose to watch, choose to catch up on work messages or do 30 minutes worth of something focused solely on you.
