Parents often ask us whether their babies can swim after their immunizations. The answer is yes, babies can swim any time before or after their immunizations.
It is important to note that sometimes a baby can have a reaction to their immunizations, resulting in a fever and sometimes diarrhea. If a fever occurs, it’s probably wise for them not to swim. We all know how bad it feels to have a fever. Being at home to rest in comfort is much better for a feverish baby. If your baby suffers from diarrhea, they should stay away from the pool for two weeks. Read more about risks posed by swimming with diarrhea.
There are differing opinions on immunizations and their benefits and risks to children. Read more about what the CDC recommends in the Parents’ Guide to Childhood Immunizations.
