CHARLOTTE, NC – February 13, 2013 – Little Otter Swim School, a Charlotte-area children’s swim school, is very excited to announce expansion! Property has been purchased and planning is underway for ground-breaking on property off Reese Boulevard (exit 23) in Huntersville for a new swim school – Little Otter North. The new facility will feature two warm water pools for teaching children to swim. The school will employ approximately 30 instructors.
“The land purchase and upcoming ground-breaking is incredibly exciting because it takes us past the planning stage and into action! Quite a bit of research has gone into the Little Otter expansion plan. Providing positive learning experiences in helping children acquire the skills they need to enjoy and appreciate the water is our passion. Our new facility will enable us to put that passion into a structure that encompasses everything that we have learned and uncovered,,” comments John Kirk, Little Otter Swim School co-owner.”
Little Otter Swim School was founded almost 10 years ago by John and his wife, Lory, in a pre-existing building modified to teach swimming. The new school will bring the best ideas, technologies and designs of the industry together in a leading-edge facility.
A decade of experience in operating their Matthews facility has provided John and Lory with insight into things as basic as the best floor plans and color schemes to use and as complex as designing green technologies into the facility. They made visits to some of the industry’s most successful and modern school to learn from the experiences of colleagues and glean the best of what they observed for their new school.
The green technologies that will be leveraged to make the new facility as energy efficient as possible are:
- Variable speed pumps designed to run only when needed.
- Windows configured to enable the best possible daylight solar energy harvesting.
- Roll-up doors installed to leverage the use of mild outdoor temperatures.
A Fall grand opening is targeted for Little Otter North. As the date approaches, Little Otter will announce the opening of the hiring process for instructors and class registration for students.
About Little Otter Swim School
Little Otter Swim School was founded in January of 2005. The owners, John and Lory Kirk, had researched swim schools across the country and included the best ideas they found.
Starting from an original staff of 5 instructors, Little Otter has grown to over 30 instructors. Thousands of children have learned to swim at Little Otter Swim School. Little Otter is a proud and active member of the United States Swim School Association and also belongs to the World Aquatic Baby Congress, the National Drowning Prevention Alliance and last, but certainly not least, is an international member of Swim Australia. It is through attendance at conferences and involvement with these organizations that Little Otter learns the very best of what is going on worldwide in swim instruction.
